Top caps and top rings often break away from the glass pieces at the top of Tiffany shades. This is a very common problem caused by one or more of the following issues:
1) Improper bulb wattage which creates too much heat - corrected by using cooler LED or CFL bulbs
2) Bulbs are too close to the glass shade - corrected by using smaller bulbs or by increasing distance from shade to bulbs
3) Damage from dropping or tipping over - corrected by placing lamp in more secure location
4) Improper initial construction - corrected by professional reinforcing and including brass wire in the solder joints very much like using rebar. |
