We often encounter lamps with wiring stuck inside of bodies, arms, tubing and channels. There are a number of techniques that we have learned to free wires stuck inside of lamps. But after many days and many trials we realized the wiring inside of this old Art Deco lamp was forever stuck.
The lamp is heavy cast iron so we filled the tubing with a fuel mixture then heated the lamp with a torch numerous times. Then we "cooked" the lamp on a gas grill for many hours on high heat. This burned off all the wiring insulation but the wires were still stuck inside. We then created a long makeshift drill bit made from a stiff stranded steel cable about 1/8" in diameter. We used this homemade bit in a drill and repeatedly worked it through the tubing to clear out all the stuck wiring.
After a good long scrubbing this Art Deco lamp will be ready for finishing, rewiring and attaching a new glass shade.
