TIFFANY HEAT CAP REPAIR:
The heat cap is heated and removed from the shade.
The heat cap is ground smooth and cleaned with alcohol.
Each damaged glass piece near the heat cap is cleaned with a wire brush and alcohol.
All involved glass pieces are re-framed by hand using copper foil.
All involved glass pieces are then soldered back into the original framework.
The heat cap is soldered back onto the top from the inside.
Numerous reinforcing copper wires are soldered to the inside perimeter of the heat cap.
These copper wires are manipulated and soldered along the solder joints of the inside top perimeter.
This repair is stronger than the original shade.
All solder work is vintage patina aged.
Deformed heat caps can be hammered smooth or completely replaced.
Heat caps that are hammered smooth will still show creases where the metal was bent.
