This damaged slag lamp shade presents a particular set of problems.
The slag lamp shade frame metal is very brittle and very thin light gauge.
Because it is so fragile, the shade frame requires nearly rebuilding.
Soldering broken sections back together is hardly a beginning.
A great deal of copper and/or brass reinforcing plates, rods or wire is necessary on the back side of the shade frame.
Even though I handled it slowly and with great care, as I carried it to the photo booth I could feel the frame giving way and cracking further.
We know from experience that during the slag repair process more of the frame will continue breaking.
This repeats throughout the repair process.
