Some of the fine decorative filigree has been damaged and burned out in this antique slag lamp shade frame.
For this repair, it is necessary to create a metal casting.
A clay mold is formed usng a section of the good undamaged filigree.
The clay mold is cured and hardened then filled with a molten metal alloy.
After curing, the new metal casting is trimmed to fit into the empty space then carefully soldered into place.
The new metal casting is then given a patina finish to match the rest of the slag lamp shade.
