Blue Wisteria Tiffany shade needs repair. The vented brass cap has broken away from the top glass. Tiffany brass cap repair explained:
The heat cap is removed from the shade by heating and removing surrounding materials with a soldering iron.
The stained glass shade is heated and hand manipulated back into the correct shape.
The clean heat cap is wire brushed and carefully cleaned with alcohol.
Glass around the top area of the heat cap is cleaned of all material then cleaned with alcohol.
Glass around the top area is re-framed with copper foil.
The heat cap is then soldered back onto the top of the shade.
The heat cap connection is reinforced with copper wires onto numerous solder joints around the perimeter of the shade top.
All work is done on the inside of the shade so it does not show then patina finished to match. |
